Twirling linden blossoms
Hyacinth, Bluebell, Rose, Linden Blossom
Pure, innocent and tender like a pair of cooing doves resting on the flowered branches of an almond tree, “L’Amandiére” is the softest, freshest perfume kiss your skin will ever receive. “L’Amandiére” is the brightest spring after the longest winter, the feeling of a white silk shirt on bare shoulders and the gaze of clear blue eyes you haven’t seen in a while but that you missed so dearly. There’s almost no sweetness in this fragrance, yet it manages to evoke the sweetest, most delicate emotions, difficult to capture in words but as piercingly beautiful as the flutter of butterfly wings. Apparently simple, “L’Amandiére” is in fact a feat of the perfumer skills, as it’s not that easy to keep a fragrance smelling so delightfully airborne and to do it with persistence. This remarkable clarity is what makes “L’Amandiére” compelling and quite unique. Usually when we think almonds in perfumery we think marzipan but that’s not the case here. What we have instead is the raw fruit with its subtle nutty scent, the wood on which it grows and the meadow in which the tree lives, surrounded by lush grass, linden blossoms and hyacinth. “L’Amandiére” is creamy without being sweet, floral without being overwhelming, green without being aggressive, woody without heaviness and earthy without forgetting about the sky. Natural yet imponderable, grounding yet divine. “L’Amandiére” reminds one of the Stendhal syndrome which happens when something is so unbearably beautiful it’s making you cry. Because many times indeed beauty lies at the edge of melancholy and pain. But it is only once that perfume can be like the satin dust on butterfly wings and that is when you wear “L’Amandiére”.
As a designer influenced by nature it was quite logical that James Heeley should be fascinated by the world of scent. It was in France, through his design work that the young Englishman discovered how scents are ‘designed’ and made.
One of his first scents, Menthe Fraîche (2006) is remarkable as a contemporary, elegant and highly wearable scent created from such a simple yet difficult ingredient: mint. With time his beautifully constructed, natural, light scents evolved into more complex creations such as Cardinal, Esprit du Tigre, Cuir Pleine Fleur and his recent collection of ‘Extrait de Parfum’.
As an autodidact, his continually evolving work now contains a varied collection of unique scents, each made according to the art of traditional French perfumery. Every detail, from the creation of the scent to the recyclable packaging is designed ‘in house’. Today, Heeley is one of the few owner-founder, and independent luxury perfume houses in Europe. It is this independence that allows the creative freedom to create individual scents that are simply unique.
