Composed by Edmond Roudnitska in the fifties, as a loving gift to his wife, who wore it as her signature scent for the rest of her life, “Le parfum de Thérèse” was very much ahead of its time and even now, some sixty odd years later it still feels incredibly modern while retaining vintage charm and class.
Sometimes, one comes across something so beautiful and harmonious that it almost defies description: this fragrance is one of those things. All there is left to do is to keep breathing and get lost in it, but we’ll do our best to give you an idea about how it smells.
“Le Parfum de Thérèse” starts with a burst of soft, sweet mandarin, that smells golden and warm, like a ray of light suddenly iluminating a dark room, firing up the glow of crystal glasses and gleaming picture frames. The mood is soon getting duskier and more autumnal and the sweetness intensifies ever so slightly as the melon note makes its entrance, alongside an opulent jasmine, that grows deeper and deeper and more sensual as the scent progresses. A leathery, very ripe, almost dry plum with hints of spice adds even more seductive drama to a scent that is already unfolding as rolls of purple velvet. Violet and rose impart a delicate powderiness which softens the elegant woody-earthy base. It’s sophisticated and at the same time carnal and intimate, with unsurpassable subtlety and a kind of quiet, heart-wrenchingly tender voluptuousness that simply begs to be worn on skin.
